Rocky Coast Run- Gear List!
I’m writing this about 24 hours and a couple beers after the finish of the Rocky Coast Run, feeling very proud of the effort I put forth.
I totally exceeded all of my expectations of mileage every day. My personal goal was “about a marathon a day” which was pretty ambitious for me personally. Not a high mileage runner, definitely not accumulative of several days! I totally and completely contribute the success of this run for my mindful approach. I was completely unattached to any outcome and just gave my all every single day. In total, I ran 313 miles in 10d 4h 18m which averages out to 30 miles a day! I was honestly shocked by that number
I focused so much on being present for this. I knew that the best way to approach this logistically was to “just roll with the punches”. Thanks to my copy of “Peace Is Every Step” by Ticht Nacht Hanh and putting those meditations into practice, I feel like I squeezed every drop out that I could. My gear was not nearly as thought out though… I was working into the wee hours before I left and was HORRIBLY unprepared for this. I trained pretty hard, have experience in adventure and practical gear choices, but panic grabbed so much stuff just hours before Olyvia and I drove 5 hours north to the West Quoddy Lighthouse. The good thing was, it was only something I only realized once I dropped off 2/3 at my place in Portland! Lightening the load to finish off the last 52 miles, my fastest day was the following with a 33 miler!
Everything I did was completely hinged on my recovery every night. It was a run, push and often drag that wagon hard and recover harder kind of event. Almost all of this gear was from my 2017 cross country ride from Boston to Seattle for St Judes. Everything was packed inside my Ortlieb waterproof bike bags instead of buying dry bags. Very much on a budget but also worked out exceptionally well! : D

I hope y’all had as much fun following along as I did doing this. I had so much love and emotional support despite being “self-supported”. A term I find funnier the more I adventure. We are never really alone, even on a journey like this!
Much Love!,
